According to a few different sources that include the FDNY, the CDC, and the New England Journal of Medicine, nearly 70 percent of all fire department responses are for gas leaks; 450 people are killed annually by carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning, and 50,000 people are sickened without even realizing it from CO poisoning.
Helping to mitigate the fire calls, sickness, property damage and loss of life resulting from gas and CO leaks is Flowtech Safety Systems.
Flowtech’s gas and CO detection system features a handful of components, and the company says the system installs into residential and commercial properties. Taking a closer look at the system it utilizes a wireless CO detection unit, a gas detection unit (natural gas and propane), a control panel and a shut-off valve that meet EN50291 or EN50194 standards, and exceed current UL specifications.
Explaining the functionality of the system, which can be installed by a variety of independent dealers, Flowtech says its gas and CO leak detectors senses leaks and it can turn off gas and appliances before building occupants become sick or a fire erupts.
As part of its specification Flowtech adds the CO detector engages if it detects 30 PPM over the course of 120 minutes, and the gas detector alarms when it detects one percent LPG or gas. The wireless control panel covers a range of 656 feet (200 meters) and it operates on the 433MHz spectrum.
