LED Light Switch Responds to Hand Motions

Did you know that a bathroom light switch can hold as much bacteria as a trash can?  According to an in-home bacteria study conducted at Simmons College in Boston, light switches are notorious for harboring germs, making control system that turn on and off the lights all the more appealing. Still, those systems can be expensive.

Canadian-based company Ubiquilux has developed a solution that for less than $80 lets you operate the lights in your house without ever touching the switch. In fact, all you need to do is wave your hand in front of it to activate the lights.
The e-Motion dimmer, available for $79, offers a new, natural, intuitive and convenient way to control lighting. The e-Motion switch has the capacity to eliminate dirt and smudging as well as the risk of infection (since you don’t touch it you eliminate the spread of dirt and bacteria). The switch, activated by a gesture from as far away as 6 inches also allows for easier access for mobility impaired individuals and people with arthritis.

As specific gestures are required for on, off or dim, random motion does not trigger any reaction. The Active Energy Saver feature means you can set the switch to automatically turn off lights left on inadvertently when the internal light sensor detects continuous presence of sunlight in the room.

The e-Motion switch is optimized to work with LED lights, but is functional with any other dimmable or non-dimmable bulb.
